Governance

Principles that underpin Governance at Holme Court School

1. The key responsibility of the Proprietor is to ensure that Holme Court School Cambridge has a clear sense of direction and purpose. She is responsible for creating an ethos of high expectation, she will be expected to monitor, evaluate, support and challenge but not to manage nor interfere. Good Governance is ultimately concerned with providing insight, wisdom and good judgement.

2. Good Governance also requires the Proprietor to ‘know their school’ and to promote not only the importance of good leadership by the SLT but also at all levels in the school. By ‘knowing the School’ it is possible for the Proprietor to be able to ask the key questions:

• How well are we doing?
• How do we know?
• Is it good enough?
• What else do we need to do?

3. Good Governance enables schools to establish procedures and practices that will ensure that the schools are compliant.
4. Given the special educational offer at Holme Court, Mrs Julia Hewerdine, an Independent SEND Specialist Adviser, is contracted to oversee the work and practices at the school.
