Principles that underpin Governance at ISP
  1. The key responsibility of the Governors is to ensure that the ISP Group has a clear sense of direction and purpose. They are responsible for creating an ethos of high expectation, they will be expected to monitor, evaluate, support and challenge but not to manage nor interfere. Good Governance is ultimately concerned with providing insight, wisdom and good judgement.
  1. Good Governance also requires Governors to ‘know their schools’ and to promote not only the importance of good leadership by the SLT but also at all levels in the school. By ‘knowing their schools’ it is possible for Governors to be able to ask the key questions:
·      How well are we doing?
·      How do we know?
·      Is it good enough?
·      What else do we need to do?
  1. Good Governance enables schools to establish procedures and practices that will ensure that the schools are compliant. ISP Schools will be expected to support the Group’s strategic priorities and these will be reflected in their own Development/Action Plan and agreed with the Directors.
  2.  Given the special educational offer at Holme Court, Mr Nick Rees, the ISP Group Head of SEND, has designated responsibility for overseeing the work and practices at the school.
The ISP Group does not have a separate Governing Body for each School. The Chairman of the Board, the Group Managing Director, the Group Director of Education, the Group Director of Schools (for each region) fulfil the functioning of a Governing Body.
